SUSTAINABILITY

SEE Centennial is shaping the path for a sustainable future.

We are committed to providing customers, business owners and employees with an exceptional experience, while incorporating environmentally sustainable operating practices and energy-efficiency measures at our property.

SEE Centennial is built on three cornerstones of Sustainability, Efficiency and the Environment. At Connecticut Post Mall, we recognize our role in environmental stewardship, both as a property manager and a vibrant member of the communities we serve.

How are we doing so far? In 2021, our efforts added up:

  • Electric car charging stations powered over 1.7 million miles of clean driving.
  • Diverted 9,691 tons of waste products that otherwise would have gone to landfills.
  • Recycled 291 tons of cardboard saving approximately 4,943 mature trees.
  • Avoided almost 300,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) and overall reducing usage by 8% versus 2020.
  • Our management team is continually evolving our internal sustainability roadmap, which is a guide for how we approach new projects and manage the property day to day. Some recent examples include:

  • All lighting systems have been converted to efficient LED products. Our garage lighting now makes use of daylight harvesting and uses occupancy sensors to conserve energy.
  • Staggered start up and time schedules for RTUs and lighting throughout the property to be more efficient with our energy usage.
  • Using recycled asphalt product (RAP) in our parking lot restoration work, which allows us to recycle and reuse the old surface material.
  • Recycling our spent metal components which result from HVAC, escalator step and door replacement projects, with a specialized metal recycling firm, avoiding contribution to landfills.
  • In addition to the operational improvements, we are also engaging the community with environmentally responsible events and initiatives that enhance the customer experience, including:

  • Electric charging stations include a 14-stall Tesla electric car super-charging station, the largest on the east coast, as well as 6 Volta charging stations. These are no-cost amenities for our visitors.
  • Hosting community document shredding events which produces on average a whopping 7,000 pounds of recyclable paper.
  • Reusing recycled fixtures from former stores for window displays and donating items to local nonprofit organizations.
  • While we are proud of what we have accomplished so far, we are always working to institute new programs designed to decrease our carbon footprint, reduce waste, conserve natural resources, reduce our energy use, and save money.
